Five Charged At Sobriety Checkpoint Overnight On Long Island

Five Long Island residents were charged during an overnight sobriety checkpoint.

The checkpoint in Patchogue at Waverly Plaza, located at 361 North Sunrise Highway Service Road, late Friday night, Dec. 20 into early Saturday morning, Dec. 21.

Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Highway Patrol Bureau’s Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team (SAFE-T) were assisted by state troopers.

A total of 487 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were charged with driving while intoxicated:

  • Raymond Brunette, 50, of Lake Grove
  • Shawn Riley, 34, of Bellport
  • Alyssa Marek, 23, of Islip Terrace
  • Ronald Cusano, 49, of Bay Shore

The following individual was charged with driving while under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs:

  • John Esposito, 29, of West Babylon

The five were due to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The checkpoint is part of an ongoing holiday enforcement initiative targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving.
