Suffolk County Police say Heather Sload, 40, of Middle Island was driving a 2018 Toyota Camry westbound on Route 25 in Coram when she crashed into a tree on Thursday, Nov. 21 around 12:20 p.m.

Two children in the vehicle, an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released to the custody of a family member, police say.

Sload was charged with aggravated driving while ability impaired with a child passenger 15 years or younger (Leandra’s Law) and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Sload’s vehicle was impounded, and she is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
