Services Scheduled For Popular Volunteer EMT In Glen Cove, Age 19

Services have been scheduled for a popular EMT on Long Island who died suddenly while at work from a medical emergency.

Nassau County resident Susan Giovanniello, age 19, of Glen Cove, died on Monday, April 3 at the end of her shift with the Glen Cove Volunteer EMS Corps.

The corps announced her death on Facebook saying she "served proudly,": "It is with deep regret, the Chiefs, Officers, Members, and Staff of City of Glen Cove Volunteer EMS Corps announce the Line of Duty death of Emergency Medical Technician Susan Giovanniello."

A cause of death was not released.

The department said Giovanniello served as a volunteer responding to many emergency calls throughout the City of Glen Cove, rising up from Glen Cove EMS Explorer Post 1072 to a caring professional. 

"Susan, with her contagious smile and demeanor, put forth calm in stressful situations as they related to patient care," they added. "Her enthusiasm for training and teamwork with the Corps will be greatly missed; she is a hero and will live on in our hearts forever."

Visitation will be held at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove on Wednesday, April 5 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6 at St. Rocco's Church, Glen Cove.

In an effort to support her family during this tragic time and honor her memory, the department is asking for support through the FundtheFirst campaign.
