Two women were killed in separate boat crashes on Long Island on Sunday, July 14.

At around 6:30 p.m. east of Moriches Inlet, a 50-foot Sea Ray with three people aboard was traveling westbound a quarter mile off Cupsogue Beach at Cupsogue Beach County Park when it struck a drifting boat broadside with a married couple aboard, Suffolk County Police said.

The man jumped from the boat, and the woman was thrown into the water, according to police.

The woman was pulled from the water by the Coast Guard and taken to the Coast Guard station where she was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Her name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The man was rescued by passing boaters and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of minor injuries.

Both boats were impounded for safety checks.

The other fatal boating crash occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Middle Bay waterways, southeast of Parsonage Cove, according to Nassau County Police.

That's when a jet ski collided with a 35-foot Fountain motorboat.

As a result of this collision, an 18-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.
