Suspect On Loose After Stealing Mercedes While Owner Pumps Gas In Westbury

Police on Long Island are searching for a man who allegedly stole a 2022 Mercedes-Benz while the owner was pumping gas.

The incident occurred in Westbury around 8:50 a.m., Sunday,  Jan. 8 at the Shell Station at 865 Carman Ave.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, a 43-year-old man was fueling up his Mercedes when a  Black man who got out of a nearby Audi, jumped in the driver's seat and stole the car, ripping off the gas pump nozzle as he drove away.

The suspect, described as being 5-foot-8 and having a thin build, wearing gray sweatpants, gray sweatshirt, black and white shoes, and a gray mask, then drove southbound on Carman Avenue before crashing into another vehicle driven by a 55-year-old man, police said.

He then ran away near the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Park Avenue.
