PSEG Long Island utility crews have been working around the clock in 16-hour shifts to restore 4,610 active outages, but 16,874 of the company’s 1,162,455 customers are still without power as of 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
In Nassau County, 8,647 of its 488,493 customers were still without power, with an estimated restoration time listed as 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13. In Suffolk County, 8,161 of PSEG’s 638,033 customers were reporting outages with an estimated restoration time of 12:45 a.m. on Thursday morning.
PSEG officials said that “the damage to many of these circuits is extensive, and as these individual damage spots are assessed, estimated restoration times will be refined.”
In Nassau, outages were still being reported in:
- North Hempstead: 3,067;
- Oyster Bay: 3,007;
- Hempstead: 2,573.
In Suffolk, outages were still being reported in:
- Brookhaven: 2,508;
- Babylon: 1,550;
- Huntington: 1,546;
- Smithtown: 1,190;
- Islip: 1,126;
- Southold: 110;
- Southampton: 64;
- Riverhead: 46;
- East Hampton: 18.
“Approximately 1,700 of that total are outages reported during the storm period, which impacted 420,000 customers,” the company posted on Wednesday. “The total number includes new outages resulting from this morning’s weather activity.
“Today’s work plan will focus on the remaining storm-related outages, which we expect will be completed tonight,” they continued. “PSEG Long Island currently has more than 6,500 lineworkers, tree trimmers and other personnel working around the clock, in 16-hour shifts, until every customer is restored.
“New outages not directly related to the storm continue to be reported and assessed, as on any non-storm day.”
