A 21-year-old recent college graduate from Bethpage has been charged with allegedly raping a person he knew.
Angelo N. Sciortino, who attended the University at Albany, was arrested on Thursday, May 23, by New York State Police, with assistance from State Police Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit, said Trooper Kerra Burns.
He was charged with rape, aggravated sexual abuse, strangulation, assault, and unlawful imprisonment in connection with the May 12 incident, said Burns.
Sciortino, who recently graduated, was a college student at the time of the incident which occurred at an off-campus residence in the city of Albany, Burns said. He was allegedly familiar with the victim, she added.
Burns said Sciortino was arrested at the residence where the alleged sexual assault took place in Albany.
Sciortino pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Thursday.
He was remanded to the Albany County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
