A Long Island woman will spend years behind bars after admitting to her role in a high-speed crash on the Meadowbrook Parkway that killed a 39-year-old mother and injured her 8-year-old son.

Freeport resident Nicole Pollock, age 28, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, June 16 to multiple counts of assault for allegedly drinking, doing drugs, driving, and rear-ending another driver last year, causing a fatal crash.

Specifically, Pollock pleaded guilty in Nassau County Court to:

  • Aggravated vehicular homicide;
  • Manslaughter;
  • Second-degree assault;
  • Third-degree assault;
  • Driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs or alcohol and any drugs;
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Feb. 2 last year, Lisette Quintanilla was driving north on the Meadowbrook Parkway near exit M7 in Hempstead along with her son. Pollock was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed while she was highly intoxicated when she rear-ended the Kia, prosecutors said.

Quintanilla lost control of her vehicle, crossed over several lanes of traffic, and crashed into a tree in a nearby wooded area. The crash killed Quintanilla, while her 8-year-old son suffered a fractured arm and other injuries.

Prosecutors previously said that Pollock attempted to walk away from the scene after her car came to a stop along the guardrail, but she was ultimately stopped by a Nassau County Police investigator.

When she is sentenced on Wednesday, Aug. 11, acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith said that Pollock is expected to be sentenced to six to 18 years in prison.

“This tragedy was the direct result of the defendant’s decision to drink and get behind the wheel – costing a woman her life and a son, his mother,” Smith said. “No plea or sentence to follow can erase the heartache of this young man and his family, but we hope this outcome provides some sense that justice has been done.”
