Nassau County Man Charged For Fatal Stabbing

Isaiah Cust, age 30, of Roosevelt was arraigned on Thursday, Jan. 7 in front of Judge William O’Brien on one count of murder, said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.

Cust was remanded to jail and is due back in court on Friday, Jan. 29. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

Ashley Munroe, age 27, from Hempstead, was arraigned on Thursday, Jan. 14, on a charge of hindering prosecution. 

She was released on her own recognizance and is due back in court on Friday, Jan. 29. If convicted, she faces a potential maximum sentence of 1-1/3 years to 4 years in prison.

“Isaiah Cust is accused of stabbing Jalil Burton to death in broad daylight on a Roosevelt street,” Singas said. “Jalil Burton was a young father with his entire life in front of him. My office is committed to holding the defendants responsible for their senseless actions.”

Singas said that on Sunday, Oct. 25, around 10 a.m., Cust allegedly stabbed 27-year-old Burton multiple times during a fight outside a home on Brookside Avenue in Roosevelt. 

Following the stabbing, which was witnessed by Munroe, Cust fled the scene in Munroe’s car.

The victim was unconscious and transported to Nassau University Medical Center in a Nassau County Police Department ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.
