The incident took place in New Hyde Park around 3:50 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2 at the LA Fitness located on Marcus Avenue.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, officers responded to the gym for a report of a man bleeding.

An investigation determined that the victim, a 37-year-old man, was punched in the face resulting in substantial pain, swelling, bruises, and lacerations, police said.

When officers attempted to arrest the aggressor, identified as Queens County resident Bryan A. Daney, age 20, of Bayside, he refused to comply, police said.

Police said officers sustained injuries during the arrest as Daney was violent and combative while resisting arrest.

The victim and two officers were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Daney was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Criminal mischief
  • Resisting arrest

He will be arraigned on Friday, Feb. 3, in Hempstead.
