Queens resident Stefan Pierre, of Staten Island, suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 in Old Bethpage. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced on Monday, Aug. 5 that Brandon Torres, 22, was arraigned on Friday, Aug. 2 and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree robbery.

Torres was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in September. If he is convicted, he faces life in prison.

Three others were also arraigned on charges for their role in the fatal incident. A fifth suspect, Dimitri Filacouris, 21, of Old Bethpage, was also involved in the incident, though he was not arraigned with the others.

Kion Carter, 25, of Middle Island, Patricia Quilliam, 19, of Greenlawn and Charles Spinella, 17, of Kings Park, were charged with first and second-degree robbery. Each of their bails was continued, and they are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 21. If convicted, they face up to 25 years in prison. “

Senseless gun violence during an armed robbery cost a young man his life,” Singas said. “This type of violence will never be tolerated in Nassau County and my office will vigorously prosecute this case.”

According to detectives, Quilliam, Spinella, and Carter all conspired together with Tores and Pierre to rob Filacouris on the day of the homicide. The group arrived at Haypath Park and Torres and Carter met with Filacouris, at which point Torres pulled out a pistol and robbed him.

During the armed robbery, Carter threatened Filacouris and took a pound of marijuana, a cell phone, and keys, investigators said. During that exchange, Pierre began walking toward the three, at which point Torres allegedly shot him.

Pierre was taken to Plainview hospital by his cohorts and he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:37 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.

Following an investigation, Torres was arrested on July 8 while Carter, Quilliam, and Spinella were arrested on July 7 by members of the Nassau County Police Department.
