Long Island Woman Dies From Injuries Suffered In Hit-Run Crash

A Long Island woman who was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash that happened last month has died from her injuries, police announced on Tuesday night, March 3.

The crash happened Monday, Feb. 10 at approximately 6:15 a.m. in Bay Shore, Suffolk County Police said.

Mary Barbato, 74, of Bay Shore was walking on Moffitt Boulevard, near Brentwood Road, when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. 

Barbato was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in critical condition.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, police released a photo of the red SUV (shown above) with possible front-end damage, noting the driver fled westbound on Moffitt Boulevard and southbound on Brentwood Road.

Early on Thursday morning, Feb. 13, Suffolk County Police announced the arrest of the alleged driver in the incident, Edward Kadir,  78, of Bay Shore.

Kadir was driving a 2013 Toyota Venza when the vehicle struck Barbato, police said. The Toyota has been impounded for evidence. 

Kadir was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with serious physical injury.

He was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, March 3.
