Darren Devine, age 30, was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 15, after he was seen walking in Highway 32 in Brantley County, Georgia, Massachusetts State Police reported.

State Police said Devine is wanted on multiple arrest warrants in Orleans District Court and Barnstable District Court for charges including:

  • Assault with intent to rape
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
  • Domestic assault and battery
  • Strangulation
  • Breaking and entering in the nighttime
  • Vandalism
  • Intimidation
  • Possession of a Class B narcotic with intent to distribute
  • Larceny
  • Motor vehicle violations

Police said Devine escaped from the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Boston on Sept. 11. He had been sent to the hospital by a judge, authorities said.

He reportedly scaled a high fence in the holding facility and ran away from the hospital.

The MSP Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and members of the US Marshals Boston searched for Devine, but were unable to locate him.

Devine was known to law enforcement for his ability to hide and survive in the woods, and his history of violence, State Police said.

In January, authorities received information that suggested Devine may be traveling in a car with his brother near Savannah, Georgia, police said.

On Thursday, Jan. 13, authorities arrested Devine's brother, Jordan Devine, on charges of impeding an investigation and possession of narcotics, State Police said.

Officers from several Georgia agencies used foot patrols, K9s and helicopters to converge on a heavily wooded area where Devine was believed to be camping, authorities said.

On Friday, Jan. 14, authorities located Devine near a swamp and established a perimeter so he couldn't escape.

He was seen on the highway the following day and arrested, police said.

State Police said that as of Monday, Jan. 17, Devine was being held at the Brantley County Jail pending rendition to Massachusetts.
