Duo Nabbed, Another Suspect At Large, After Man Is Robbed Following Two-Vehicle LI Crash

Two suspects were apprehended and another remains at large after a robbery occurred following a two-vehicle crash on Long Island, according to police.

It happened around 5:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7  in Valley Stream, Nassau County Police said.

According to detectives, a 28-year-old male victim was involved in a motor vehicle accident while traveling southbound on Martin Place. 

The two suspects, Jamal Salter and Kasheem Latham, exited their vehicle and began to punch the victim and then took his cell phone, according to police.

The victim ran from his car and knocked on a local homeowner's door. The homeowner called 911 and Fifth Precinct police arrived on the scene and observed the suspects entering a 2007, dark-colored BMW leaving the scene. 

Officers followed the vehicle and eventually it struck a parked car in front of an Audrey Avenue residence. 

Three suspects fled the vehicle. Two -- Salter and Latham -- were located on Audrey Avenue and placed under arrest. 

The third suspect, with an unknown description, fled the scene and remains at large.

The victim suffered an injury to his jaw and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Salter, 35, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident. 

Latham, 27, of Brooklyn, is being charged with two counts of second-degree robbery.

Both Salter and Latham will be arraigned on Sunday, Dec. 8 in First District Court in Hempstead.
