County Executive Laura Curran announced that Nassau would begin administering booster shots of the vaccine and hosting pop-up clinics to get the largest number of shots in the arms of area residents.

Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that anyone 65 and older who received a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine get a booster six months after their second dose.

Americans 18 and older in long-term care facilities, who are immunocompromised, or work in high-risk settings are also eligible.

“We must continue to keep our communities safe, keep our schools open and our businesses running,” Curran said.

The first pop-up clinic for booster shots will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nassau Community College on Saturday, Oct. 30. The second will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Yes We Can Community Center on Garden Street in Westchester.

Booster shots will also be provided at its weekly vaccination clinic at the Nassau County Department of Health office on County Seat Drive in Mineola between 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Anyone interested in getting a booster shot is advised to make an appointment, but walk-ins will be welcomed.

According to Curran, if the demand is there, Nassau County will add more pop-up booster shot clinics.
