A Long Island shop has the best ice cream in the New York State, says a report in Travel + Leisure.
The rankings were based on reviews on Yelp, the crowd-sourcing platform. Travel + Leisure said it looked at ice cream, frozen yogurt, and gelato businesses in each state in the country and drew its rankings using an algorithm to determine ones with the most reviews and highest star ratings.
The North Shore shop, Snowflake at 1148 W. Main St. in Riverhead, was selected as having the best ice cream in the Empire State.
"Nothing much has changed since Herb and Joan Kunitz introduced their ice cream parlor to Riverhead in 1953," the article says. "The neon blue building still stands, with an ice cream cone proudly hanging off the roof. Wonderfully retro, the shop serves hard ice cream created by the Kunitzes, along with pillows of soft serve."
Flavors galore include pralines & cream, coconut, black magic woman, birthday cake, lemon, and cookie dough.
The shop offers ice cream sandwiches, sprinkle cones and sundaes with various toppings like homemade hot fudge, black cherry, hot caramel, and pineapple.
