Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar at Broadway Commons in Hicksville is a casual family-style restaurant where customers select their "catch" and which sauce they want and how spicy they want it prepared.

"We don't just take our crab legs and stick them in butter," General Manager David Darity told Daily Voice. "We have different flavors, Cajun flavors, plain, garlic-butter, lemon pepper, and a Hook and Reel special and you can order it spicy, mild, or fire, another pretty cool thing."

Menu items include crawfish, lobster, shrimp, calamari, scallops and various types of crabs and mussels. There are specialty items like Crab Meat Fries, that are pretty "special," Darity said.

He said the restaurant was nearly full at lunchtime on opening day Wednesday, July 10. The franchise's owner, Tina Zhang, told Daily Voice she's "excited."

The chain announced it was headed to Long Island in May.

Locations in Valley Stream and Bay Shore will open in September. Click here for that report.
