WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- In a scathing statement, Democratic Assemblyman Gary Pretlow said Gov. Andrew Cuomo is using "bribery" tactics in order to pass his agenda in exchange for lawmaker pay raises, according to the New York Post.
Pretlow, who represents the districts of Mount Vernon and Yonkers, told the Post that the governor has said he will approve pay raises if lawmakers agree with his ethics reform or approve Uber in upstate New York, among other items, reported the Post.
Pretlow also pointed the finger at Cuomo saying he kept upping the bar by demanding more during legislative negotiations, said the New York Post.
Legislators earn $79,500 a year, an amount which hasn't changed since 1999, added the Post.
One of the sticking points is the governor wants to impose a limit on the amount of outside income a lawmaker can make to help prevent conflict of interests, said the Post.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll found 70 percent of voters oppose a pay raise without the limits.
