Three Charged In Northern Westchester DWI Checkpoint

A New York State Police DWI safety checkpoint in Westchester led to the arrest of three area residents for alleged impaired driving and an expensive ticket for a driver caught going more than 100 mph.

New York State Police troopers conducted the checkpoint in the area of Route 9 in Cortlandt on Saturday, Feb. 2, making one felony and two misdemeanor DWI arrests. Additionally, 28 tickets were doled out to drivers for various vehicle and traffic violations, including one for a driver clocked doing 104 mph in the 55 mph zone.

Cortlandt resident Clement McCann, 55, is facing a felony after he was arrested for DWI with a previous conviction within the past 10 years. He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle without an interlock device, both misdemeanors.

Troopers also busted Yorktown resident Jorge Sanchez Lopez, 30 and Stamford resident Richard Ramos, 26 for misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated.

The department said, “DWI safety checkpoint details are a part of the State Police’s commitment to make the highways of New York safe for the motoring public.”
