Matthew Kiernan, of Mahopac, was arrested around 1 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 3, after Yorktown Police officers responded to a one-vehicle crash on Hanover Street, said Yorktown Police Sgt. Samuel Sansone.

Upon arrival on the scene, the officers found a black Jeep which struck a utility pole with Kiernan standing next to the vehicle, Sansone said.

After an investigation, it was determined that Kiernan was allegedly driving while intoxicated. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Yorktown Police headquarters where he was given a breath test that showed he had a blood-alcohol level higher than .08 percent, police said.

Kiernan was charged with two counts of DWI and failing to drive in a designated lane.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
