Child Suffers Serious Injury After Getting Hit On Sidewalk By Car In Westchester

Two pedestrians were hit and injured, one seriously, by a driver who swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle in White Plains.

The incident took place around 4 p.m., Sunday, June 16, when two siblings, one a 22-year-old woman, and one a child, were standing on the sidewalk near 271 W. Post Road, when a driver traveling west allegedly swerved around a stopped vehicle, jumped the sidewalk, hitting the two pedestrians, and then a tree, said White Plains Police Capt. James Spencer.

The woman, received minor injuries, The child was seriously injured, with head trauma and internal injuries, Spencer said.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. 

Spencer said officers are recanvassing the scene and speaking with all witnesses. 

No criminal charges have been filed to date, he said.
