Car Bursts Into Flames After Crashing Into Pole In Northern Westchester

A car burst into flames after a motorist crashed into a utility pole, toppling power lines in Northern Westchester.

First responders in Somers were dispatched to Old Somers Road at approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, where there was a report of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, first responders reported that there were wires down and a vehicle fire. Somers EMS was able to attend to the lone occupant of one vehicle while crews waited to go to work putting out the fire until NYSEG arrived to secure the power.

According to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department, it took crews approximately 90 minutes to knock down the flames and the scene was turned over to NYSEG to repair the pole and restore the wires. The crash also caused a temporary power outage at the Paramount Nursing home, setting off an automatic alarm.

In total, more than two dozen firefighters responded to the scene. The driver who crashed was treated for minor injuries by paramedics. No firefighters reported any injuries.
