Northern Westchester Hospital Selects Dr. Elisa Burns As Honoree For Gala

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Dr. Elisa E. Burns, a gynecologic surgeon and director of quality and outcomes for the Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital, will be the physician honoree at the hospital’s annual fundraising gala, held on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Old Salem Farm in North Salem.

She will be honored for her clinical leadership, generosity to the Hospital as a long-time supporter, and dedication to patients and the practice of medicine.

“I am proud to be associated with such a progressive, forward-looking hospital,” shared Burns.

When she joined Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) in 1986 as an attending physician in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Burns was struck by the fact that the community facility was as modern and up-to-date as the major New York City medical center where she had trained and practiced. Over the past 28 years, her initial impression of NWH has only been confirmed and strengthened.

At NWH, Burns served as chief of the department of obstetrics and gynecology from 1993 to 2008.

She has demonstrated her profound commitment to enhancing quality by serving on NWH committees for quality improvement (QI) for the hospital generally and for minimally invasive surgery specifically, also chairing the ob/gyn QI Committee. She served as vice-chair of the NWH medical board, and served on both its operating room and gynecology review committees.

“NWH provides the best level of care anywhere,” said Burns. “Our protocols for treating cancer, for example, are the most advanced. The very fact that I have the role of director of quality and outcomes shows the hospital’s steadfast commitment to patient safety as well as to leading-edge technology.”

During the hospital’s last fundraising drive, Burns volunteered on the campaign committee, encouraging other physicians to give. She also emphasizes the importance of community support for NWH.
