MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Mount Kisco's Joseph Cosentino was honored recently at a Village Board of Trustees meeting for more than a half century of volunteer service.

Cosentino, who has served on the Planning Board for decades and is currently its chairman, attended with his his relatives, who made up a considerable part of a large crowd in the meeting room.

Mayor Michael Cindrich, who presented Cosentino with a plaque and proclaimed a day in his honor, noted Cosentino's biography, including the years of his volunteering. Aside from the Planning Board, Cosentino also served as a trustee, on the board of the Boys & Girls Club and with the ambulance corps.

Cindrich noted that he has "given back to this community,” adding that he has “asked for nothing in return.”

Mount Kisco Police Lt. Patrick O'Reilly noted his personal experience with Cosentino's family and mentioned a plaque, which is in his honor. Cosentino's relationship with the Police Department, according to O'Reilly, included auxiliary component service.

Cosentino was also praised by his current and former colleagues before giving his own complimentary remarks.

Before the ceremony was over, members of Cosentino's family stood next to him in a line that went to the room's podium.
