Julius Horowitz, 96, Lifelong Mt. Kisco Resident

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – Julius "Julie" L. Horowitz, a lifelong resident of Mt. Kisco, died April 23 at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Wellesley, Mass. He was 96.

The son of William and Anna Horowitz, he was born Oct. 12, 1915, the eldest of four brothers. Horowitz attended Mt. Kisco schools, graduating in 1934 from Mt. Kisco High School, where he was a member of the school's championship teams. 

Horowitz served in the U.S. Army with the 94th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and traveled across Europe with Patton's Third Army, earning the Bronze Star for Valor among other commendations. 

After the war, he returned to Mount Kisco, where he went into painting and contracting with his father. Their firm was a fixture in Mount Kisco for over 50 years. In 1947, Horowitz married Helen Lander.  

He was a founding member of Bet Torah Synagogue in Mount Kisco, serving as house chairman for many years. Horowitz was also a member of the Bricetti's Market bowling team for 50 years and a member of the Painter's Union. 

Horowitz is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; two daughters, Susan Notar and Emily Goldshine; two brothers, Bernard Howard of Kennisaw, Ga., and David Howard, of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons-in-law; four grandchildren and a-great grandson. 

Services were held Wednesday at Temple Bet Torah in Mount Kisco, with burial at Sharon Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were by King David Memorial Chapel in Mount Kisco.
