MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - John L. Joyce, a former Mt. Kisco fire chief, died Jan. 2. He was 86.
He was born April 2, 1925 in Mt. Kisco to the late John J. and Ellen Joyce. He served in the Army during World War II and went on to become the chief of department at the Independent Fire Company of Mt. Kisco.
Joyce was also employed by Local 21 as a plumber. Most recently of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., he was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife Alice "Tipi" Joyce, his daughter Ellen Joyce, his sister Mary Joyce and two grandchildren.
Friends may call on Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home in Mt. Kisco. The funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mt. Kisco, followed by interment in St. Francis Cemetery.
