From 1 to 3 p.m., members of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester enjoyed a visit from “Disney Live!” as it give children a sneak peak into the magic behind “Mickey’s Music Festival.”
After starting the day by making paper air guitars, kids jammed out with Disney Live! cast members, as they learned the original song and dance routine of “Rock the Mouse!”
The afternoon ended with a photo shoot with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, along with Disney Live! dance cast members.
“Today was an awesome day, a great time,” said Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Executive Director Brian Skanes. “The novelty and element of surprise an event like this brings to the kids is always a lot of fun. It’s a nice treat for them.”
Just as the kids were mesmerized by seeing some of their favorite animated characters up close, the performers love interacting with their fans in a more intimate setting.
“When we perform on stage, it’s not a one-on-one experience,” said Disney Live! Dance Captain Nick Manna, who is best known for portraying Buzz Lightyear.
“It’s an awesome experience to come here and do arts and crafts with the kids and get that one-on-one time. That’s definitely my favorite part."
Local venues such as the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester represent a nice change of pace for the cast and crew of Disney Live!. They spend most of their time performing in front of big crowds around the world. The pit stop in Mount Kisco comes on the tail-end of a more than 60-stop domestic tour, which originally began internationally.
“This is the first time Mickey’s Music Festival has come to Mount Kisco, and it’s been great,” said Teresa Brady of Shea Communication, which represents Disney Live! in the tri-state area. “Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester is an amazing facility, with great staff. I love seeing the kid’s reactions in a setting like this —they’re always so enthusiastic.”
