Jeremie Preson, who is homeless, was arrested on Friday, April 11, following multiple reports of his alleged use of a knife to damage property in the Village of Mamaroneck, the village's police department announced.
The first such report came in at around 2:01 p.m. on Friday, when Village of Mamaroneck Police received a 911 call about a man using a knife to damage a wall at a business on the 100 block of Mamaroneck Avenue. The suspect fled before officers arrived, and the business owner declined to pursue charges, police said.
Moments later, another 911 call reported that a man had damaged a seat aboard a Bee-Line bus on the 500 block of Halstead Avenue. The caller said the man had followed her off the bus but fled again before police arrived.
A third 911 call soon followed, reporting damage at another business on the 200 block of Mamaroneck Avenue. Once again, the business owner declined prosecution.
After searching the area, police located the suspect on the 600 block of Halstead Avenue and identified him as Preston. Officers placed Preston under arrest under Mental Hygiene Law 9.45 due to his "erratic and violent behavior," police said.
A knife was found at the scene, and Preston was also found to have an active warrant from the MTA Police Department for criminal mischief, according to the department.
He was issued an appearance ticket for a future court date and taken to White Plains Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
