Bronxville's 'French Eclectic' Home Puts A Modern Twist On A Classic Style

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Influenced by 19th century France and adapted to the American landscape, "French eclectic" is an architectural style all its own. Featuring oversized chimneys, tall, pitched roofs and stone or brick siding, these houses invoke a sturdy, old world elegance.

Architect, Ruard Veltman, who has designed homes in North Carolina, California, Tennesee, among other places, took an interesting approach during his first Bronxville build. Incorporating "French eclectic" style, with a modern twist, Veltman designed 50 Masterton Road in 2016.

The new Bronxville build is a five-bedroom, six-bath home, listed for $3,900,000 and offers 6,526 sq. ft. of living space. "The street is beautiful and scenic," said Tracy Murray, the listing agent from Bronxville Real Estate. "You're surrounded by grand homes of every architectural style, so nothing is cookie cutter."

The previous owners of 50 Masterton Road hired Veltman to reconstruct the home in a more modern style. Veltman, a renowned architect whose work has been featured in publications such as the Wall Street journal and Elle Décor, implemented interior features that combine traditional and non-traditional design. "Veltman is unique and extremely creative," said Murray. "The reason he was chosen for this project was for his very creative mind that fit perfectly with the idea behind this house."

The “French eclectic” house includes a kitchen with custom-made cabinets and hidden service access to the formal spaces at the front of the house. There is a private family room in the rear of the home that leads to a beautiful outdoor terrace. Additionally, the downstairs includes a lounge, home gym, theater and wine room.

"It's a unique design using the best materials," said Murray. "All the cabinets are bespoke and nothing comes from a kitchen design manufacturer. Everything was designed by the architects."

While new builds are highly sought-after in the Masterton Road area of Bronxville, they are often hard to come by. "The Masterton Road area is renowned for bigger, more grander homes," said Murray. "Not only is this house beautiful, but it's also built to last, incorporating the finest building materials and aesthetic detail."
