Suffolk County Sheriff’s deputies stopped Glen Cove resident Hector Penagos, shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, when he was clocked driving 80 mph in a posted 55 mph zone on the LIE in Islip.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Penagos was unable to stay in his lane, and failed to use a turn signal when he entered the LIE and changed lanes.

During the subsequent traffic stop, Penagos showed signs of being impaired and he proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Penagos was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He was also cited for multiple vehicle and traffic violations. Following his processing, Penagos was released and scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip later this year to respond to the charge.
