Officers were dispatched to the area of South Columbus Avenue at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, where there was reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, police said they found an unresponsive man - later identified as 27-year-old Orville Bell - near the intersection of South Columbus Avenue and Sargent Place.
Police said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to his head, torso and left leg. He was transferred to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he died from the wounds. Two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.
“The men and women of the Mount Vernon Police Department are working vigorously on this investigation,” Chief Richton Ziadie said. “We extended our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the victims.”
