YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers woman has pleaded guilty to one count of grand larceny for stealing more than $35,000 from the Mount Vernon School District department, according to a statement released by Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore.

Karen Velasquez, a former employee of Aramark in Mount Vernon, manipulated the food service monitoring program which is used to keep track of the lunch program of the 16 Mount Vernon schools, according to the statement.

The defendant used the program to falsely reflect lower cash receipts from said schools, thereby enabling the defendant to withhold cash on a regular basis, which she then kept for her own personal use, the district attorney's statement said.

Velasquez will be sentenced on March 11, 2014. She faces a maximum of seven years in state prison.
