The incident began around 10:47 a.m., Monday, April 5, when a Greenwich Police detective spotted a suspected stolen vehicle in February from Cos Cos Avenue while on South Beach Avenue, said Greenwich Police Captain Mark Zuccerella.
The detective put out a call to patrol officers who began looking for the vehicle, Zuccerella said.
The vehicle was located again near Westcott, confirmed to be the stolen vehicle from Cos Cob Av, and stopped, he said.
Upon stopping, the passenger, identified as Emory Jean-Louis, exits the vehicle and flees the scene.
The driver, a woman, stayed in the vehicle and was detained.
Officers engaged Jean-Louis in a foot pursuit through the yards in and near the Havemeyer Park area of North Mianus, he added.
To help with the search, the Stamford Police Department's K-9 unit, which helped the search for the wanted man.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the Board of Education and the area pre-school were called and advised of the police activity," Zuccerella said.
Jean-Louis is currently wanted out of several Connecticut agencies for burglary and escape from custody at the correctional facility in New Haven, Zuccerella said.
After not finding Jean-Louis, at 12:45 p.m., the Board of Education and the pre-school were advised that the police activity in the area was ending.
"We are leaving patrol units at the two area public schools for the remains of the school day," he added.
The driver has been detained and faces charges.
The case against Jean-Louis is being handled by the department's detective unit.
