Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating after a motorist who exited his disabled vehicle was killed in a crash in Sayville.

Police say Shawn Devlin, 31, of Mastic Beach was driving a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck on the on-ramp to westbound Sunrise Highway between Broadway and Lincoln Avenue in Sayville on Wednesday, Nov. 13 around 5:20 a.m.

Devlin pulled his vehicle into the area between the entrance ramp and the express lanes after experiencing technical issues, police say.

Devlin was subsequently struck by a 2017 Jeep when he exited the vehicle, according to police.

Devlin was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep, identified as John Annibell, 58, of Holtsville, was uninjured, police say.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Fifth Squad at (631) 854-8552.
