Johnny Marks, who was born in the city in 1909, wrote "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" for Gene Autry, "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" for Brenda Lee, and the Burl Ives classic, "Holly Jolly Christmas." Marks also wrote "Run Rudolph Run" for rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry.
A member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Marks was Jewish, but he gave the world some of its favorite Christmas songs.
