Westchester Man Charged With ID Theft, Larceny In Greenwich

A man from Westchester is facing ID theft and larceny charges after he allegedly attempted to fraudulently purchase a pair of high-end sunglasses in Greenwich, police say.

Greenwich Police received a report of a potentially fraudulent purchase made at the Sunglass Hut store located at 260 Greenwich Avenue on Thursday, Feb. 21 around 1:30 p.m.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that 34-year-old Juan Rodriguez-Torres of New Rochelle had allegedly tried to purchase a pair of Chanel sunglasses (MSRP $585) by using personal and identifiable information of another individual.

Officers then detained the subject and discovered that he had traveled from Greenwich with an intent to participate in fraudulent activity. Rodriguez-Torres was arrested and charged with:

  • Fifth-degree larceny/criminal attempt
  • Unlawful possession of a personal identifying information access device (9 counts)
  • Unlawful completion or reproduction of a credit card (9 counts)
  • Third-degree identity theft (9 counts)
  • Second-degree forgery (10 counts)
  • Interfering with an officer

Rodriguez-Torres posted $50,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford court on Friday, March 8.
