An early morning crash on I-287 led to the arrest of an allegedly impaired Fairfield County driver who was reportedly behind the wheel with a blood alcohol content more than double the legal limit in Westchester.

New York State Police troopers in Elmsford responded to a stretch of the interstate shortly before 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, where there was a report of a crash involving a stalled car.

Police said that the investigation determined that a Chrysler Town and Country minivan became disabled in the right lane of I-287 and was struck by a Nissan Altima driven by Stamford resident Ricardo Gavilanes-Teran, who did not see the vehicle stopped in the lane.

According to police, Gavilanes-Teran was uninjured in the crash and was determined to be intoxicated. He was transported to State Police headquarters in Tarrytown, where his blood alcohol content was found to be .18 percent, more than double the legal limit.

No injuries were reported.

Gavilanes-Teran, 38, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and cited for multiple vehicle and traffic violations. Following his processing, Gavilanes-Teran was released to a sober third-party and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Elmsford Court later this month to respond to the aggravated DWI charge.
