A Kmart employee is facing charges after he allegedly stole money from a cash register at a Northern Westchester store, police say.
Yorktown Police responded to the Kmart located at 355 Downing Drive on the report of a larceny complaint on Saturday, March 23 around 1:30 p.m.
Further investigation revealed that the store’s loss prevention team had a 17-year-old employee in custody who had allegedly stolen $80 from a cash register during a two-hour period.
The employee, whose name is being withheld due to eligibility for youthful offender status, was transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters. He was charged with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor, and released on his own recognizance.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, April 23.
