Next Stop, Olympics: NY Diver, 12, Has Sights Set On 2028 Trials

At just 12 years old, Long Island’s Arthur “AJ” Palladino is diving headfirst toward a dream that few dare to chase: a spot at the 2028 Olympic Trials.

The Lindenhurst athlete’s love for diving began just three years ago in a local summer program. Today, AJ is one of the nation’s top young divers, already earning multiple national titles and representing the United States in international competitions across Europe.

His meteoric rise in the sport has captured the hearts of many — now, his family is rallying the community to help keep his Olympic dream alive.

“Arthur dedicates most of his free time to training and competing,” wrote Rachel Palladino in a GoFundMe launched to support his journey. “He has worked tirelessly to reach the level he is at, and now he has an incredible opportunity to compete in an international diving meet once again.”

AJ’s résumé speaks for itself. He swept gold at the AAU Red White and Blue Nationals in Texas, earning him a coveted spot on the AAU National Team. That same summer, he competed in Rome and Scotland. Most recently, he qualified once again to represent Team USA in Croatia this summer.

A member of the Long Island Divers and New Rochelle YMCA teams, AJ trains under coaches Cornelia Thomas, George Taylor III, and Michael Darland. He competes in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, as well as platform diving, consistently placing first across YMCA, AAU, and USA Diving meets.

Recent highlights include:

  • First place in all three events at the 2025 YMCA Nationals (1m, 3m, platform)
  • Multiple golds at the Kimball Cup AAU Diving meet
  • Top finishes at USA Diving Regionals and Nationals

His high scores in complex dives, including inward 2½ somersaults and twisting pike entries, show that AJ isn’t just competing—he’s dominating.

But with national and international meets come steep travel and training expenses. The family is seeking donations to help cover the costs of travel, meet fees, and continued coaching support.

As of Tuesday, April 15, the campaign had raised $850 toward its goal. Every dollar, they say, brings AJ one step closer to the 2028 Olympic Trials.

“Any donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly toward helping him compete on the world stage,” Rachel wrote. “Thank you for your generosity and belief in his potential.”
