'Gone Girl' Claim By Estranged Husband's Attorney 'Makes No Sense,' Says Missing Mom's Family

New allegations by the attorney of missing New Canaan mom Jennifer Farber Dulos' estranged husband that her disappearance was somehow related to a "Gone Girl," type of scenario has left her family reeling.

"Trying to tie Jennifer’s absence to a book she wrote more than 17 years ago makes no sense," said Carrie Luft, a spokesperson for the family and a friend in reference to a novel written by Jennifer Dulos. "Evidence shows that Jennifer was the victim of a violent attack in her New Canaan home."

Jennifer, a mother of five, disappeared a month ago on Friday, May 24, after dropping off her children at school. Her friends reported her missing later that night and her abandoned vehicle was located hours later.

Since then, her husband Fotis Dulos, who Jennifer said she feared for her life, has been arrested along with girlfriend Michelle Troconis.

Both were charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and hindering prosecution, after a turned on cell phone, allowed investigators to track the movements of the husband as he made at least 30 stops to dump garbage bags in dumpsters and garbage cans.

Inside those bags were items that contained the blood of Jennifer Dulos.

But Fotis Dulos' lawyer, Norm Pattis, told the New York Post that Jennifer wrote a 500-page book similar to the 2012 novel about a woman who fakes her own murder to frame her husband.

“This is a person who has a pretty florid imagination and motives to use it to hurt Mr. Dulos,” Pattis told the Post.

Pattis added that Jennifer had a “troubled past” and “struggled with heroin her whole life," the Post reported.

"I read Jennifer’s novel in installments as she was completing the manuscript. She finished the draft around 2002," Luft said. "Her book has nothing to do with 'Gone Girl' (published in 2012).

"Jennifer’s novel is not a mystery. It’s a character-driven story that follows a young woman through relationships and self- discovery over a period of years. Like all of Jennifer’s writing, it expresses a deep longing for human connection and the need to be accepted as one’s true self."

The family also said that what is happening to them is "not fiction or a movie."

"This is real life, as experienced every single day by Jennifer’s five young children, her family, and her friends," Luft said. "We are heartbroken. Jennifer is not here to protect her children and these false and irresponsible allegations hurt the children now and into the future."
