Josephine DeSilva, a Fairfield County resident and former baker at Reader’s Digest in Northern Westchester, is celebrating her 104th birthday at Bethel Nursing Home.
DeSilva has resided at Bethel Nursing Home in Ossining since 2016. She is the oldest of 12 children and worked as a baker for Reader’s Digest.
DeSilva and her husband, Manuel raised their family in Pleasantville before he passed away. She is the mother to Josephine of Briarcliff Manor and Manuel of New Hampshire (deceased).
She continues to enjoy baking, dancing, singing and spending time with family and friends. With seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, DeSilva has inspiring advice for those around her:
“Be kind to everyone, dance even if you’re in a chair and once in a while, it’s okay to take a nap!”
