The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers is set to reopen in July as it joins other theaters in returning to business following the COVID-19 shutdown last year.

Alamo Drafthouse began its latest round of opening theaters on Wednesday, April 28 in Springfield, with its Brooklyn location set to begin operations on Friday, May 7. No specific date has been provided for the reopening of the Yonkers location, with the company announcing only that it will be in July, with no exact date specified.

Yonkers is one of seven Alamo Drafthouse locations scheduled to reopen in July.

“At least (15) of our theaters will be brought back online this summer, roughly (re)doubling our footprint to over (30) theaters across the country,” officials said.

The news comes as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the state will largely be lifting its COVID-19 capacity restrictions as of Wednesday, May 19 as the state continues to “follow the data.”

Once it is reopened, customers will still see some COVID-19 precautions put in place, including mandatory mask wearing unless eating or drinking, and social distancing rules depending on the state’s current guidance. Customers are also likely to find buffer seats between them when they are seated.

“It's taken a lot to get this point. In August of 2020, our teams began slowly and methodically reopening theaters all over the country,” company officials wrote in a statement. “It’s a lot of (expensive) work to wake one of these babies up – considerably more than a little bit of dusting – so that's why we've been slow to reopen locations in 2021.”
