HARTSDALE, N.Y. One week after an impressive performance at the Mamaroneck Tiger Tournament, Mamaroneck continued its excellent wrestling at the Woodlands Dual-Meet Tournament on Saturday.
Troy Whittemore won the 126-pound title and was named the most outstanding wrestler. Ben Miller (152 pounds), Dion Duran (170), Edgar Aguilar (285) and Steven Fabiano (119) also went 4-0. The five wrestlers each pinned their four respective opponents. Overall, Mamaroneck finished 3-1 with victories over Lakeland/Panas, Woodlands and Peekskill.
Troy was explosive on the day, Mamaroneck coach Anthony Vitti said. Despite weighing in at 120, he jumped up to 126. He never blinks when jumping up a weight class or taking on our opponents best kid. He is among the most unselfish and team-oriented wrestlers I have ever worked with.
Whittemore is 14-1 on the season and Miller is 15-1. Both wrestlers lost to the Realbuto brothers of Somers Whittemore to Dylan Realbuto and Miller to four-time Section 1 champion and two-time state titlist, Brian Realbuto.
Duran ran his record to 14-2 and Aguilar is now 11-2 in his first year wrestling.
