MAMARONECK, N.Y. Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck hosted the third and final qualifying day for the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships on Wednesday and it seemed to give the home team a slight advantage.
The club qualified two relays and several individual swimmers for Thursdays 10 a.m. finals at the Westchester County Club. Coach Shannon Bolger said the team was happy with the results.
Orienta had between 30 and 40 swimmers in the three days of qualifying heats out of more than 100 swimmers in the club.
Bolger, in her fourth year as head coach of Orienta's swim team, said the club gets to host the event every so often and that her swimmers enjoy the home pool advantage.
I think its definitely an advantage, she said. The kids know the starting blocks and the turns and everything.
Bolger said Orienta and Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester typically trade off hosting the third qualifying day. Orienta had the honor this year, and the team was pleased.
It just depends on the facility, Bolger said. And were big enough to host it. So its good.
