Mamaroneck Football Can Get Playoff Berth With Win

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Danny McCarthy knows when Carmel steps on the field at 4:30 p.m. Friday for its Section 1 Class AA football game with Mamaroneck, the Tigers will be in for a tough game.

Mamaroneck does not expect the same Carmel team (3-1) that was shut out, 41-0, by Clarkstown North last week.

“After a rough loss, that is enough to get any team going and wanting to get back on the field,” McCarthy said. “We don’t want that Carmel momentum to go against us.”

Mamaroneck (3-1) wants to carry its momentum from from an 18-6 win against Ramapo the previous week. McCarthy threw two touchdowns passes in the win. The Mamaroneck defense turned in an excellent performance, shutting out Ramapo in the second half.

McCarthy said the team realizes the importance of this game.

“We know we need to win this game to get into the playoffs,” McCarthy said. “Carmel is a powerful team and one of the toughest teams in the section. Both teams are going to go at it and it will be an intense game.”
