Amina Banks, who just graduated from Duke University, where she studied political science, also will compete this week for the women’s 800-meter title in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I championships, the lohud.com report said.
In 2012, the year Banks graduated from Mamaroneck High School, she became the New York State champion in the 1,000 meters for the second time in a row.
She finished with a time of 2:49.89 at the New York State Indoor Track Championships at Cornell University.
According to her then-Mamaroneck track coach, Banks was an “amazing” high school athlete.
“She’s talented, she’s hard working, she’s very competitive and she loves to race,” said Bob Morrissey, who was quoted in an earlier Daily Voice article.
“There’s a mental toughness about her that’s incredible,” he said then.
