Rye Neck Votes Tuesday on 2.28% School Budget Hike

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Residents of the Rye Neck Union Free School District will vote Tuesday on a $36,670,040 budget that complies with the state tax levy cap, and two uncontested Board of Education seats.

The two candidates for those seats are incumbent Allen Hodys, who joined the board in 2009, and newcomer William Shaner. Board President Cathy O'Keefe did not seek re-election.

The 2012-13 budget, approved by the board April 18, raises spending by $816,275, or 2.28 percent, over the 2011-12 budget. The tax levy, which is the total amount of money the district collects in property taxes, would be $33,305,232, an increase of $707,645, or 2.17 percent, the maximum allowed for Rye Neck under the state tax levy cap.

Property owners in the Rye Neck school district can determine their 2012-13 school tax rate by plugging their property's assessed value into a calculator on the district website.

Registered voters may vote from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Middle/High School library, 300 Hornidge Road, Mamaroneck.
