Dr. Mercanti-Anthony, who was the search committee’s unanimous choice for assistant principal, will replace Gail Kleiner, who is retiring at the end of this year.
“Michael impressed the committee with his deep understanding of the educational issues that we, at Mamaroneck High School, are thinking about,” said MHS Principal Elizabeth Clain in a statement. “The committee feels confident that Michael will bring a wealth of knowledge and a keen intellect that will help us to continue to improve our High School.”
Currently an Achievement Coach in New York City, Dr. Mercanti-Anthony works with a network of principals to improve instruction in the schools and helped bring his Children’s First Network of schools up 26 spots in city-wide rankings, as determined by school performance data. He began his career as a social studies teacher, working for nine years at Lindenwold High School in New Jersey. While at Lindenwold, he served as both Social Studies and World Language Supervisor.
Dr. Mecanti-Anthony said, “I am thrilled to be joining the Mamaroneck community and very much look forward to working with Ms. Clain and the faculty and staff of MHS to support the academic growth of our students. Throughout the interview process I was continually impressed by the talent, diversity, and spirit of innovation which characterizes the staff and students of MHS. I’m honored to be a part of the team.”
He is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in American History and English. He also received his Ed.D in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
The appointment is effective July 1, 2013.
