MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The New York Civil Liberties Union is helping a mother in Larchmont appeal to the New York State Education Department after her son was not allowed into Mamaroneck High School after moving from Guatemala, according to lohud.com.
The dispute is over what level of school the 16-year-old completed prior to moving to the area in April. The school denied his entry believing he had completed high school in Guatemala but his mother insists he had only completed middle school, according to lohud.com.
According to lohud.com, the NYCLU filed an appeal to the State Education Department on Wednesday and the boy is currently attending New Rochelle High School.
