Bronxville Schools Superintendent Roy Montesano reported on Friday, Jan. 22 that there were multiple new COVID-19 cases confirmed at the elementary, middle, and high school.

At the Elementary School, there were 13 new cases in the past week, prompting them to go to a full remote schedule this week with plans to re-open for in-person instruction on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The High School, which was on a full remote schedule last week and returned to in-person learning this week had seven newly confirmed cases, forcing them back to virtual learning.

Montesano said that remote learning will continue at the high school through next week as it had already been scheduled to be distanced for mid-term exams.

In the Middle School, only five new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed since the holiday break, which will allow them to continue in-person learning unless more infections arise.

“As we have stated our goal is to have as many students in school as much as we can and as safely as we can,” Montesano said in a notice to the community. “The rise in cases we are experiencing serves as a reminder to remain vigilant in our fight against this horrible virus.

“Please help all of us by wearing masks, observing social distancing, and washing your hands regularly,” he added. “While we understand the many sacrifices that have been made, especially for our students, please try to limit social interactions as much as possible.”

Since the state began tracking COVID-19 in New York schools, there have been 75 confirmed cases - 58 students, 17 staff members - of the virus throughout the district.

A total of 33 infections have been reported at the High School, 32 at the Elementary School, and 10 at the Middle School.
